Hiring for assistantships is a competitive process with most positions open to both first- and second- year students. When hiring for hourly positions, preference is usually given to students granted work-study status through the University of Washington Financial Aid Office.
Announcements of open positions are posted on our Job and Internship Listing Service (JILeS) in the spring or as positions become available. You will receive access to JILeS after enrolling in the Evans School, but will be notified in the interim of new assistantship openings through our incoming student listserv.

Assistantships outside of the Evans School through the University of Washington are posted by Career Services on JILeS as they are informed of them. However, Career Services might not always be aware of assistantship opportunities in other departments, so it is a good idea to contact the department of your undergraduate major to see what opportunities are available.
