Likes, Tweets, and Shares: Managing a Social Organization

Sabra Schneider

Whether a communication manager or a project coordinator, you are engaging in an increasingly social workplace. The adoption of social media in public and nonprofit organizations influences internal policies and community engagement. However, many managers are unprepared for the communications, HR and legal questions that arise. Additionally, many organizations fail to leverage their website and social networking tools to create a meaningful dialog with the community they serve.

Learning Objectives and Competencies

During this course, you will explore the changing trends in communications, and discuss new opportunities for your organization. Designed for public and nonprofit employees who encounter social media in the workplace, participants will learn how to:
  • Incorporate common social media tools in organization strategy
  • Identify and understand core components of a successful social media policy
  • Articulate the opportunities and risks of social media
  • Manage people and projects in an increasingly social environment
  • Build a culture of transparency
  • Leverage social media for crisis communications
If you use it day-to-day or work with a communication team, social media will continue to change the way you interact with your peers and the people you serve. Why not build a more strategic plan to manage this change and advance the work of your organization?
