Daniel Carlson received $75,000 in supplemental funding from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for the second phase of a research project aimed at reducing commutes for Washington students of all ages. This funding is in addition to the $9,499 in supplemental funding announced last week.
The additional $75,000 will be used to look closely at 10 programs of interest in Washington state that are reducing or have the potential to reduce auto congestion around schools.
The original award of $75,001 from the WSDOT for phase one of the project was received in September 2007. A report (764 KB PDF) on phase one, which reviewed literature dealing with commute travel reduction, school sitting criteria, and examples from other states or jurisdictions, is now available.
