An article co-authored by Diana Fletschner, titled " Constructing and Reconstructing Gender: Reference Group Effects and Women's Demand for Entrepreneurial Capital," was published in the April 2008 issue of the Journal of Socio-Economics.
In the article, Fletschner and co-author Michael Carter of the University of Wisconsin provide an analytical framework for understanding the social factors that limit women’s demand for capital by explicitly incorporating social norms into a model of women’s decision making.
By providing this framework, Fletschner and Carter argue that rural women’s demand for entrepreneurial capital may be restricted by identity constraints because pursuing non-traditional entrepreneurial livelihoods defy activity-regulating social norms.
