The UW Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology recently awarded Rachel Kleit a $15,000 seed grant to study the impact of public housing redevelopment on social networks.
Kleit will analyze changes in social networks among the Vietnamese- and English-speaking original residents of low-income public housing that has undergone redevelopment. Redevelopment has the potential to transform not only physical form but also social worlds as well. Not only will we be comparing social networks pre and post redevelopment but also the networks of those who return to the site to live after redevelopment with those who do not return to the site but choose to live elsewhere.
