Humphrey Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary
On May 30, 2008, the Evans School of Public Affairs celebrated 20 years of hosting the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program at the University of Washington, one of only 15 universities in the nation chosen to participate in the program.

Evans School and Microsoft Offer Class on Corporate Social Responsibility
The Evans School and Microsoft Community Affairs collaborated on a recent course on effective corporate giving and employee engagement in the 21st Century global marketplace. The three-part class featured presentations by Akhtar Badshah, senior director of global community affairs at Microsoft Corporation, Rodney Hines, corporate social responsibility manager for Starbucks, and others.
Rachel Kleit Recieves $15,000 Grant from UW CSDE
The UW Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology recently awarded Rachel Kleit a $15,000 seed grant to study the impact of public housing redevelopment on social networks.
Mark Long Article to be Published in Economics of Education Review
An article authored by Mark Long titled "Changes in the Returns to Education and College Quality" was conditionally accepted for publication.
Evans School Faculty Present at Collaborative Governance Conference
Five Evans School faculty members—Sandra Archibald, Joaquín Herranz, Mary Kay Gugerty, Stephen Page, and Craig Thomas— recently gave presentations at a two-day conference on collaborative government at the University of Southern California (USC).
Ann Bostrom Receives Grant from the National Science Foundation
The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded Ann Bostrom, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the University of Colorado a joint grant for $145,850 to develop an integrated understanding of weather emergency warning systems and processes with a focus on hurricanes and flash floods.
Bill Zumeta Chosen as Fellow for TIAA-CREF Institute
The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association – College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) Institute has accepted William M. Zumeta into its fellows program made up of prominent researchers, scholars, policy analysts, and academic administrators.

Ann Bostrom recently assumed the role of area editor for risk
communication for the Council of the Society for Risk Analysis’
