Second Visiting Committee Member Tapped for Service in D.C.
Gary Locke's nomination for Secretary of Commerce marks the second Evans School Visiting Committee member tapped by President Barack Obama to serve in his administration. King County Executive and Visiting Committee member Ron Sims was tapped to serve as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in early February. Zebedayo B. Kyomo (HHH 2004-05), Tanzania, received the Tanzania Award for Scientific and Technological Achievement (TASTA) from the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology for his discovery of magnetite in Tabora and its use as alternative low-cost iron filings. The minister for communication, science, and technology of the United Republic of Tanzania presented the award to Kyomo.Karma Tshering Receives HHH Alumni Impact Award

The Human Services Policy Center with principal investigator Richard N. Brandon, received a $75,000 grant from the Annie E. Daniel Carlson and MPA student Deric Gruen co-authored a report with UW research strategist Jennifer Thacker for the Washington State Legislature and Department of Transportation (WSDOT) titled “Transportation Demand Management Strategies for Schools Phase II Report: Reducing Auto Congestion Around Schools.”Laura Evans Article Accepted for Publication
An article co-authored by Laura Evans titled “Urban Politics in the State Arena” was accepted for publication in the spring 2009 issue Studies in American Political Development. Evans’ co-authors include Nancy Burns of the University of Michigan, Gerald Gamm of the University of Rochester, and Corrine McConnaughy of The Ohio State University.Evans School Wins Magnuson Award
The Municipal League of King County announced that the Evans School has been named the 2009 recipient of the Warren G. Magnuson Memorial award. This is the first time the

The Evans School International Affairs Student Interest Group (InGate) organized a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service group of 40 students, international fellows, staff, faculty, friends, and family who worked with the Nature Consortium at the West Duwamish Green Belt to remove invasive growth, plant trees and salal, and place mulch.
