Natural wetlands in an unnatural location: Consequences of urbanizing watersheds on landscape processes

January 13, 2009
8:30 a.m. - 9:20 a.m.
Anderson Hall, Room 223, UW Seattle campus

The Water Center Seminar Series presents "Natural Wetlands in an Unnatural Location: Consequences of Urbanizing Watersheds on Landscape Processes" with Dyann Sheldon, principal with Okak, Inc. who and teaches wetland and upland habitat restoration design workshops at the University of Washington.

What are the expected and unexpected consequences of urbanization on the processes that affect wetland functions, and is there an opportunity to apply our knowledge to reduce adverse affects?  The data shows clear correlations between changes in sub-basin conditions to some wetland functions; are there means to reduce known sources of impacts through changes in design and implementation of land-use or stormwater practices? What are some options for consideration?
