The Evans School Research Seminar Series presents Ed Blakely, Professor of Urban Policy at the United States Studies Centre in Sydney, Australia on "Responding to Regional Crisis: Implications for Research and Practice."
Abstract:
Dr. Blakely will use the case of New Orlean's recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina to examine the choices and trade-offs for planners, policymakers, and administrators in dealing with crisis, politics, and climate change. He will focus on his recent experience directing the implementation plans for the recovery of New Orleans to identify lessons for responding to a variety of man-made and natural disasters. Dr. Blakely will also draw upon his extensive experience in regional planning responses to the San Francisco Bay Area's 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake; the Oakland, California 1991 firestorm; and the New York City 9/11 terrorist attack.
