Letter from ESO

Dear Incoming Evans School Community Members:

Welcome to the Evans School community!  We want to congratulate you on your admittance to the Evans School and wish you luck in your journey to graduate school.  We look forward to meeting you and having you with us in Parrington Hall!

As you prepare, think about the community of, diverse, passionate, and enthusiastic students you will find here at the Evans School, people from all walks of life who are just as dedicated and concerned about public issues as you are (and will be slaving away in microeconomics, budgeting, and public management just like you will be!).

This is where we come in.  The Evans School Student Organization (ESO) brings the Evans School community—students, staff, and faculty—together through diverse, creative, fun, public-value-enhancing events.  Our mission is to provide quality support to all the students, serve as your liaison to the Evans School administration, and strengthen the bonds that are the foundation of the Evans School community.  We are here for you.

Diversity is in the heart of this year’s ESO administration. We believe in the value of ALL the different perspectives in the Evans School community, regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or political background. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and respected among the Evans School community.

A few things to think about for this coming September:

  • Meet your fellow classmates!  During orientation, ESO will host several events for you to meet other members of the Evans School community. We hope you will join us!  Details to come in the future.
  • Become an ESO officer!  Several positions for 1st year students to participate in ESO will be available in the fall, including:
    • 1st Year Representative
    • Secretary
    • 1st Year Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) representative
  • We encourage you to run for office and support your fellow classmates.  Think about all the practical leadership skills you could get from being part of ESO!
  • Join a Student Interest Group!  Student Interest Groups (SIGs) are an excellent way to make connections with classmates that share your interests. The SIGs will host events at orientation as well.  See the website for more information about the SIGs.

If you have any questions about the program, classes, or professors, or if you just need help transitioning to Seattle, feel free to contact us at the email addresses below.

We look forward to meeting you in the fall!

Sincerely,
The Evans Student Organization
